In 2023, PostNL introduced the first mail and parcel lockers with city gardens.

These lockers are equipped with green roofs and plants that support endangered local species. The project aims not only to enhance biodiversity but also to raise awareness about endangered species. An example of this is the locker in The Hague, where rare butterflies and bees find a safe haven. This initiative contributes to more local biodiversity.

RESULTS AND IMPACT

The city gardens align with PostNL's mission to achieve net-zero emissions by 2040, according to the SBTi standard. By using smart delivery locations like these lockers, the company reduces transport miles, contributing to cleaner air and a better living environment. Local feedback has been positive, and PostNL is currently exploring the possibility of expanding the concept to other cities. The initiative demonstrates that sustainability and postal delivery can effectively go hand in hand.
