Sustainable and efficient
In the countryside and in rural areas, PostNL uses scooters to deliver the mail because of the large distances needing to be covered. The petrol scooters are being replaced by the 3W e-scooter. This electric scooter is more sustainable – thereby contributing to PostNL’s target for emissions-free delivery in the last mile from 2030. Once all the e-scooters are in use, it will save 657 tonnes of CO2, or 285,000 litres of petrol, per year. In addition to being more sustainable, the new scooters are also safer because they’re more stable. Moreover, they’re more efficient because the postal deliverers can take more mail with them. The ergonomic seat ensures that postal deliverers can sit more comfortably than on a regular scooter.
Ergonomic seat
Since last March, postal deliverer Rob van Mierlo from Den Bosch has been working as one of the first scooter delivery drivers with the 3W e-scooter. “And it’s going well. I deliver the mail to the outskirts of Den Bosch, covering between 50 and 60 kilometres every day. This 3W e-scooter has an ergonomic seat with a proper chair. That helps my posture, which is good for my back. Plus, I can take more mail with the new scooter. I don’t have to go back to the depot to re-load. I’m enjoying all the positive reactions I’ve been getting from people – they think it’s really cool!”
Local introduction
PostNL is managing the introduction of the electric scooters on a local basis, in consultation with the team leaders in each delivery area. They indicate when the scooters can be replaced.
