PostNL has been working on the transition to electric delivery for years and is ready to comply with this new regulation. The company is investing in an increasing number of electric vehicles and charging facilities. In August 2024, the 1,000th charging station was put into use at the charging hub of the parcel sorting centre in Goes. With 48 LEVs (light electric vehicles) and 1,000 electric delivery vans, PostNL is fully prepared to deliver parcels emission-free in city centres.
RESULTS AND IMPACT
The transition to emission-free delivery directly contributes to improved air quality and liveability in city centres. In addition, it results in a significant reduction in CO2 emissions. At present, PostNL already delivers 96% of letterbox parcels and letters emission-free from the final sorting centre to people’s homes and parcels are increasingly delivered by electric vehicles. The company has also introduced its first electric truck and continues to invest in sustainable solutions. PostNL has set a target to reduce CO2 emissions by 45% by 2030 and by 90% by 2040.
